Our Mission & Purpose

Making vital communications language-accessible for all in Hawai‘i.​

Approximately 11% of Hawaiʻi's residents have Limited English Proficiency (LEP). Representing more than 13 language communities, many LEP individuals face significant barriers to accessing vital news, emergency and disaster warnings, public health information, social services, and other essential resources.

Ethnic Education Hawaiʻi (EEH) works to bridge this communication gap by ensuring that critical public information is delivered in the languages spoken by Hawaiʻi's diverse communities. Through multilingual radio and television broadcasts, EEH helps LEP residents and visitors receive timely, accurate, and life-saving information.Our mission is to ensure equitable access to essential information for individuals who cannot fully access English-language media.

In partnership with Hawaiʻi's ethnic media outlets—including KNDI, KREA, and KZOO—EEH provides translation, production, and funding for public service announcements and educational programming in multiple languages. These broadcasts cover topics such as legal rights and responsibilities, immigration resources, housing, employment, education, public health, emergency preparedness, and other issues that strengthen the well-being of our communities.

By making critical information accessible to everyone, regardless of the language they speak, EEH helps build a safer, healthier, and more informed Hawaiʻi.
